State Senator Dan Blue Endorses Raleigh Affordable Housing Bond Referendum
“Our city is growing, and all trend lines point to continued growth and development in our region. It is critical that our city address housing affordability. I applaud Mayor Baldwin and the City Council for having the vision to push a bond referendum to address affordable housing in the Capital City.
This bond is an important first step. The spending recommendations endorsed by the City Council clearly define how the money will be used. Helping our low-income families, our chronically homeless, working families and first-time buyers are key strategic elements to having a comprehensive approach to this public policy issue.
The citizen-led advisory committee has been composed of private citizens, neighborhood groups, housing advocates and real estate developers. This group has worked to listen and present a plan that sets a path for the future.
I am proud to endorse the affordable housing bond for the City of Raleigh. I urge my fellow citizens in joining me in voting YES for our city’s future.”
— NC Sen. Dan Blue
About The Bond
Raleigh voters will be asked to approve the $80 million affordable housing bond in the General Election on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. Raleigh’s affordable housing bond aims to provide timely and much-needed affordable housing options to all citizens – including essential workers and first-time homeowners. Earlier this year, the citizens’ advisory committee recommended five major areas of focus for the bond allocation including:
- Transit-oriented site acquisition
- Owner-occupied home rehabilitation
- Down payment assistance
- Public-private partnerships
- Low income housing tax credit gap financing
